Who can file here from 31 August 2026
Indonesian citizens and holders of an Indonesian residence permit. The rule runs across the system and is closed inside the e-visa form: the application is taken by the country of citizenship or permanent residence. If you do not live in Indonesia, this is not your consulate, and no circumstance changes that. Which consulate your country is assigned to is on the map.
How filing works
The application goes in online and the $350 fee is paid online as well; in January 2026 it rose from $340. After that comes a mandatory in-person interview in Jakarta, with no alternative: the requirement appeared at the start of 2026 and has not been lifted since. Decision times are unpredictable.
What the consulate checks and demands:
- a police clearance certificate — from the country of citizenship or the country of filing;
- three months of bank statements with a minimum balance of 500,000 ฿ per applicant, children included; for the main applicant a sponsorship letter is the formal alternative;
- verification of the employer and legalisation of the company’s registration documents together with the director’s passport — a requirement most remote employees cannot technically meet;
- some applicants receive a tourist visa instead of the DTV they asked for — our chronicle records that as an outcome of its own.
How it worked before 31 August
Until the end of 2025 Jakarta was an ordinary working consulate: refusals happened but did not define the picture. From January 2026 that broke — approvals became rare, the mandatory interview appeared, and the employer verification requirement shut the route for remote workers. On the board the consulate stood at “crisis”.
Back then it was still a choice: file here or at a consulate next door. From 31 August there is no choice — for people living in Indonesia, Jakarta is the only filing point, and for everyone else it is closed.
