What happened
Until the end of 2025 Jakarta was a normal working consulate: refusals happened, but they didn’t define the picture. In January 2026 the picture broke:
- approvals became a rarity, and some of them came as a tourist visa issued instead of the DTV that was requested;
- a mandatory in-person interview in Jakarta appeared — something new for this consulate;
- the consulate began demanding employer verification and legalised company registration documents together with the director’s passport — a requirement most remote employees simply cannot meet, and one that ends in refusal.
What it means
Most applications from recent months in our records never reach a full DTV: refusals, and “consolation” tourist visas that give neither the five years nor the status. We keep tracking every case: if a recovery starts, we’ll see it in the data first.
The full story of the crisis is in the journal: “The Jakarta Chronicle”.
