What the data shows
Kuala Lumpur is one of the thinnest consulates in our base: the flow of applications is several times smaller than through Vietnam or Moscow, and the conclusions we draw from it are cautious. The picture that does emerge doesn’t look steady — which is why the board status is “risk” rather than “open”.
Among the recurring observations:
- the consulate often asks for proof of a rental agreement in Malaysia — the connection to the jurisdiction gets checked;
- processing times swing more than anywhere else: from weeks to well over a month;
- for the neighbouring Malaysian posts (Penang, Kota Bharu) there is even less data, and the timings are even less predictable.
