Who can file here from 31 August 2026
Citizens and residents of Chile, Costa Rica, Panama and El Salvador who are in one of those countries. Citizens of the district who are outside it at the moment cannot file. The proof named on the embassy page is an identity document, a residence card or an entry stamp in the passport.
Santiago’s DTV page has not changed since July 2024; this is the region’s most “frozen” consulate. The embassy has not said how it will read the new “permanent residence” requirement, or whether it will accept an ordinary cédula para extranjeros, the foreigner’s identity card. Until there is practice, we promise nothing of the kind here.
The embassy’s page and the application form disagree
The embassy’s pages carry neither the criminal record certificate nor proof of permanent residence. The e-Visa form has required both documents since 31 August, for every consulate in the world. We assemble the package for the form.
The fee: $400, not 10,000 baht
The DTV page still shows an outdated figure from a 2024 press release. The embassy’s own schedule of fees, dated 15 July 2024, names $400 for a five-year DTV. Payment is by Visa or Mastercard online only; if a payment fails, the embassy asks you to try again with a different card. The fee is not refunded.
How filing works
- No visit to the embassy is needed and the documents go through the portal — unless the embassy itself invites you to an interview.
- Timeline per the embassy site: five to ten working days. File no earlier than three months and no later than a month ahead.
- Finances: no less than 500,000 THB; as proof the embassy explicitly names statements, payslips and sponsorship letters. No statement period is set, so we prepare three months.
- Dependants: a spouse and children, plus a document proving the relationship. The embassy page gives no age limit; the e-Visa form caps children at 20.
- A document request left unanswered for 45 days cancels the application, with no notice and no refund of the fee.
We have no evidence of filings through Santiago, so we name no timelines beyond the ones the embassy states.
The criminal record certificate
The Chilean Certificado de Antecedentes is issued by the Registro Civil online with ClaveÚnica, the state digital login, free of charge, and the apostille for it is electronic and free as well. In practice it is treated as valid for 30 to 60 days, so it has to be ordered for the filing. The certificate is in Spanish, and filing needs an official English translation.
An apostille does not work for Thailand yet: the Convention enters into force there on 28 February 2027. Until then it is legalisation and translation.
How foreign residents of Chile obtain the certificate we have not yet confirmed from a primary source. The e-Visa form allows the certificate of the country of citizenship instead of the Chilean one, and for a foreign national that is the answer.
Yellow fever
Chile is not on the yellow fever list; Panama is. If you are filing in Santiago and flying in from Panama, entry to Thailand needs a certificate of a vaccination given at least ten days before entry, and the T8 form.
What else matters
For Chileans the 90-day visa-free regime still applies after 15 September 2026. The DTV is needed not to get in, but to live longer without leaving every three months.
What we track here
The first filings after 31 August, the real amount charged on the portal, and how temporary residence is read.
A package you have assembled yourself we check before filing — the Preflight Check: $300, a written report within two working days. Full support all the way to the visa is the Solo Route and Family Route.
The state of every consulate is on the live board, and the consulate assigned to your country is on the map.
