Who can file here from 31 August 2026
The post rewrote both DTV pages — the work one and the dependant one — on 31 August, the day the rule took effect, and read it more broadly than anyone in Asia. A “Singapore citizen and Singapore Resident” may file, and residency is covered by any valid long-term pass: the Blue IC with Re-Entry Permit Form 7 for a PR, Employment Pass, Personalised Employment Pass, S Pass, Work Permit, Student Pass, Dependant’s Pass, Long Term Social Visit Pass and others. The pass has to be valid for at least two more months; if it was renewed recently, you need the approval from MOM. The post separately asks for a screenshot of the scan of the QR code on the back of the card, down to the serial number.
The post does not ask for the certificate, the form does
A criminal record certificate is mentioned on Singapore’s pages only for citizens of Nigeria, while the e-Visa form has carried it for everyone since 31 August. The discrepancy is now in its third day: the post does not ask for it, the form does, so we prepare for both. The post also still lists “Document indicating current location in Singapore” — a document deleted from the form. We put that in as well.
The Singapore Certificate of Clearance is issued by the police to citizens, PRs and foreigners from the age of 16, provided the person has lived, worked or studied in the country continuously for at least six months. It takes 7–14 days, the application is online only, and the result comes digitally through the FileSG portal, ready to upload to the e-Visa straight away. The police do not publish a price — we checked twice. The application goes in with proof that the certificate is required: a screenshot of the requirement in the Thai form.
Hence the trap: a pass holder who has lived in the country for less than six months will not be given the certificate, and neither will a child under 16. The form allows the certificate of the country of citizenship instead of the country of filing, and for many that is the way out. An apostille does not work for Thailand until 28 February 2027.
How filing works
- The fee is 500 SGD, the visa multiple-entry for five years, non-refundable.
- File no later than 21 working days before the trip — the longest lead time stated by any of the eight English-language posts.
- Finances: a balance no lower than 500,000 THB, “about 20,000 SGD” on the post’s page, with the actual equivalent on 3 September at S$19,217. The page names both two months and three — we work to three. Payslips or proof of income go in as a separate item, and a foreign statement needs a letter from the bank with the equivalent in Singapore or US dollars, in English.
- The company letter has to describe the nature of the work specifically in Thailand, with a stamp and the signature of an authorised person. In the one detailed case we have, the request for documents demanded a wet-ink signature and a statement that the company does business outside Thailand.
- A business owner needs an ACRA Business Profile no older than three months; everyone needs a tenancy agreement in Singapore or a title deed, plus proof of accommodation in Thailand: a hotel booking or a house registration book.
- The applicant has to stay in Singapore for the whole processing period. An interview is at the consul’s discretion and comes without warning.
- Dependants: a spouse, parents and unmarried children under 20 — only Singapore includes parents. A civil partnership certificate is not accepted, and documents from third countries are certified by the embassy of the issuing country.
What else matters
Muay Thai now takes two government letters from Thailand: a letter from the gym to the Board of Boxing Sport and a letter from the Sports Authority of Thailand together with the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. Within the same three days Los Angeles asked for the SAT letter too; who issues it, not one post has explained.
Our only case is from October 2025: approval in 15 days through four rounds of document requests, and all four were about the one employer letter. Since 31 August there have been no accounts at all. From 15 September 2026 visa-free entry for Singaporean citizens drops from 60 to 30 days.
